Group Related Games Across Platforms

Treat Game Versions as First-Class Entries

Add a Better Version Picker for Combined Games

📋 Summary

Allow users to group related games across different platforms while keeping each game as its own library entry.

❗ Problem

Multi-platform games, remakes, remasters, and ports can create visual clutter in playlists, favorites, and discovery views.

For example, a user may have several versions of the same game across NES, GBA, PSP, and PC. These are distinct releases, but users may still want them grouped together when browsing broader library views.

💡 Proposal

Add an optional related-game grouping system.

Grouped games could appear as one unified entry in multi-platform views, with a platform-aware selector for choosing which version to launch.

Examples:

  • Final Fantasy I: NES, GBA, PSP, PC

  • Resident Evil 2: original and remake

  • Sonic 3: original and fan-made widescreen port

  • Darkstalkers: standalone entries and collection versions

Per-platform views should still show the individual platform entries normally.

🧩 Use Cases

  • Reduce duplicate-looking entries in playlists

  • Group ports, remakes, remasters, and related releases

  • Browse one logical game while preserving platform-specific entries

  • Pick a platform/version from a launch selector

📦 Benefits

  • Cleaner multi-platform browsing

  • Better organization for large libraries

  • Keeps platform-specific library views intact

  • Makes related releases easier to find and compare

⚠️ Considerations

This should not replace combined games or additional apps. It should group separate game entries for browsing and launching while preserving their individual metadata and platform identity.
