System-Specific Media Priorities
š Summary
Add the ability to set game art media priorities per system rather than globally. This would allow users to customize which artwork types (e.g., 2D, 3D, Reconstructed) are preferred on a per-platform basis, offering greater control and consistency for mixed collections.
ā Problem
Currently, the media priorities found under Tools > Options > Media ā such as Box Front Priorities, Cart Priorities, or Screenshot Priorities ā apply globally to all platforms.
This creates conflicts when certain platforms require different preferences.
For example:
PlayStation users may prefer Box - 3D as the primary view.
NES users may want Box - Front (2D) for a cleaner, flatter look.
Right now, thereās no way to set these independently.
š” Proposal
Introduce System-Specific Media Priority Overrides within the existing Media Options menu.
Each āPrioritiesā tab would include:
A Systems dropdown to select the desired platform.
An āOverride Media Prioritiesā button to enable custom priorities for that platform.
A āReset Media Prioritiesā button to revert to the global defaults.
When active, the system-specific configuration would take precedence over global media priority rules.
š¦ Benefits
š§© Enables per-system visual customization.
š® Prevents global conflicts when managing large multi-platform libraries.
š„ļø Creates a more tailored, authentic presentation for each consoleās artwork style.
š¾ Reduces the need for manual image renaming or directory management to achieve preferred visuals.
š Example Use Case
A user wants:
Super Nintendo games to display 2D box art.
PlayStation 2 games to display 3D renders.
Arcade titles to prioritize flyers.
With this feature, each platformās media would display exactly as intended without overriding others.
