Separate Image Category for AI-Generated Fanart
š Summary
Introduce a separate image category for AI-generated fanart, allowing users to distinguish it from traditionally created fanart and optionally exclude it from their collections.
ā Problem
Some users prefer not to include AI-generated images in their libraries. Currently:
AI-generated fanart is uploaded under existing fanart categories
There is no clear distinction between AI-created and traditionally created artwork
Users cannot easily filter out AI-generated content
This makes it difficult for users with specific preferences to manage their media cleanly.
š” Proposal
Create a parallel set of image categories specifically for AI-generated content, such as:
Fanart (AI)
And other applicable fanart categories
These would:
Be clearly labeled as AI-generated
Be filterable or optionally excluded from downloads and display
Apply only to user-generated AI artwork
If an official release uses AI artwork, it would remain in the standard image category.
š¦ Benefits
Gives users control over whether AI-generated art appears in their collection
Maintains transparency in media sourcing
Prevents mixing AI and non-AI artwork in the same category
Supports both users who want AI artwork and those who prefer to avoid it
š” Notes
Should integrate with existing image filtering and download settings
Labeling standards may need to be defined for uploads
Default behavior could continue treating all images equally unless filtered

Because we handle material decades old, it's practically impossible to obtain media sources without serious damage or alterations, so the use of manual editing or AI to restore images is commonplace. Introducing these tags would reignite an old war where a small group of preservation purists flooded the main image categories with images that hadn't been cleaned or edited at all. According to their criteria, the most important images would be dusty, torn, or even oil-stained covers, while those that were truly faithful to the originals but cleaned and restored would fall into the bottomless pit of categories alongside reconstructions or fan media, making it a nightmare once again to have legitimate art that's visually clean and eye-catching. The only tags needed are "fanart" to clearly separate restorations from entirely fan creations, and "reconstructed" for those that, while using the original source as a base, add a box or cartridge template for a cohesive visual appearance. Please, let's not ruin a good idea by offering too many options and revisiting problems we've already overcome.

Such a proposal will only serve to generate suspicion and new fights and arguments. Currently, almost any image editing or cleanup can involve AI to a greater or lesser degree. This will only serve to generate a witch hunt where some purists claim to have found a minimal alteration or generative extension in art to reclassify it as AI, and only have raw material with terrible appearance and presentation as the main category. It is unnecessary, ideological, and a source of conflict. DONWVOTE.

Separate image category for AI generated fanart.
I would prefer not to have AI generated images in my collection, so I would like to propose a new branch of of fanart to cover these images so individuals with similar misgivings can safely ignore them.
These categories would theoretically be available for all current fanart categories. If an official release uses AI to generate its cover art, then it would still fall under the usual Box-Front category. This request is specifically for individuals who wish to fill cover gaps in their collection by using AI.
