Retrom type functionality
Break up the monolithic code, make a backend like retrom that is opensource, keep the frontend proprietary.
This will allow the games to be hosted, faster feature development due to it being open source and the backend can be operating system agnostic.

I would also find this interesting, to have a server where all the metadata/media/configuration is hosted, and having various clients on windows, the browser, android,.. On the clients you can then play the games, and launchbox manages the saves for you (synchronising them to your server).
And also having a user system, to be able to easily share your existing library with family members and friends, resulting in having your own steam for retro games.
A lot of requests are small steps in this direction, the single sign on, the synchronizing of save games, the syncing of media. When implementing these features, it might be good to keep this in mind.

Hi there,
Thanks for sharing your suggestion! We’d love to better understand what you’re envisioning with this feature request. Could you clarify what specific functionality from Retrom you’d like to see in LaunchBox? Are you suggesting a server-client setup where the backend is open-source and can be accessed through a separate frontend, or is there another key benefit you have in mind?
Right now, LaunchBox is designed as a self-contained application rather than a server-based platform, so moving to a model like this would be a significant shift. If you could provide more details on the use case and what you see as the biggest advantages, it would help us (and the community) evaluate the idea more thoroughly.
Looking forward to your thoughts!
