Set Fallback Media Pack for Missing Images

šŸ“‹ Summary

Let users define which media pack LaunchBox should fall back on when artwork is missing from their selected Platform, Category, or Playlist pack.

šŸŽÆ Feature Overview

Introduce a setting to specify a default fallback media pack for missing media assets. Currently, LaunchBox defaults to the Nostalgia set, but this behavior isn’t clear or configurable. Users should be able to designate the fallback pack and even set a priority order for media packs.

šŸ›  Example Use Case

  • A user installs a minimalistic media pack for playlists, but it doesn’t include artwork for all platforms.

  • LaunchBox automatically falls back to the designated default pack for any missing images.

  • The user has full control over which pack acts as the fallback and in what priority.

šŸ“¦ Benefits

  • Avoids gaps in visual presentation without needing manual file copying.

  • Makes fallback behavior transparent and user-controlled.

  • Supports more modular and creative use of themed or partial media packs.

šŸ’” Notes

  • Could include a ā€œSet as fallbackā€ toggle when installing a media pack.

  • Priority-based fallback logic (like image group prioritization) could be added in settings.

those fallback media could be set for each Platform/Category/Playlist , so lets say there would be a generic SNES box art, front back , cart for every snes game that has missing media, or a generic playstation 1 cover, box, disk, background art for PS1 games, it needs a media setting inside each Platform/Category/Playlist settings to set those fallback media

Media Pack Default Fallback Option in Settings

Reviewing the feature definition on this site, it’s stated that the Nostalgia Platform Clear Logo Set is designated as the fallback location for Platform/Category/Playlist material if one doesn’t exist in the configured pack, but this information isn’t clear inside the client.

    Potential solutions:

    1. Create an option in the settings page, or the current pack installation popup screen, for a pack to be designated as the fallback folder for missing media. Include appropriate tool tipping for users to understand the its purpose. Potentially add a ā€œDefaultsā€ folder in ā€œLaunchbox/Images/Media Packsā€ instead of relying on Nostalgia

    2. Allow prioritization order between Media Packs, similar to older options for Image Groups, selecting the highest priority image for a Platform/Category/Playlist out of a list of configured Media Packs.

I’d prefer option 2, simply to expand the Packs usefulness to cover custom categories and playlists packs that may not cover traditional material.
