Expand "Missing Images" Section Browsing to Support All Media Types
đSummary
Extend LaunchBoxâs current Missing Image Group functionality to include all available image categories, including more specific and newly added types like Box Spines, Disc Art, and gameplay-specific screenshots. This would improve the ability to visually audit which artwork is missing from games and better adapt the media viewer to system-specific content.
âProblem
Currently, the Image Group filter in LaunchBox allows users to browse specific types of media across gamesâsuch as box front, clear logos, or carts. This is incredibly helpful for spotting missing artwork. However, the feature only supports a limited number of broad image categories, and many subtypes (like Box Spine, Screenshot - Game Over, or Disc Art) are excluded from the view options.
In addition, the same categories are presented for all platforms, even if they donât logically apply (e.g., showing cartridge images for CD-based systems). This can lead to inefficiencies when managing or sourcing missing media.
đĄProposal
Add full support for all image subcategories within the Image Group selector, including:
Box - Spine
Box - Full
Disc
Cart - Front / Back
Screenshot - Title / Select / Game Over / High Scores
Arcade - Marquee
Steam Banner
Other platform-specific categories
Optionally allow users to customize which image types appear in the selector per system, so irrelevant media types can be hidden (e.g., no âCartsâ for Dreamcast).
Dynamically adjust available image groups based on the selected platform, offering a cleaner and more context-sensitive experience.
â Benefits
Makes it easier to audit and maintain complete, consistent media libraries
Saves time during artwork curation and media pack creation
Adapts better to evolving community standards as new image types are added
Improves overall polish and organization for users with large or heavily customized libraries đ§źđ¨
Helps users spot and fill in missing artwork with greater precision

Hi there,
Thanks for the request here. I wonder if I could confirm which image categories youâre specifically referring to that arenât covered here. The main ones should be covered, however is the ask that youâd like to be able to see each individual category (i.e cart - front and cart - back instead of just missing carts, which bundles them both together? )
Let us know and weâll do our best to flesh out this request.
Cheers,

Hey AstroBob,
AgainâŚsorry for the long delay to reply.
So, the menu bar has the category IMAGE GROUP.
IMAGE GROUP
Backgrounds
Boxes
3D Boxes
Carts
3D Carts
Clear Logos
Marquees
Screenshots
Steam Banners
These are certainly the main ones I would imagine the majority of people use
Itâs really just an OCD and efficiency thing for me when it comes to seeing which media is missing from a particular game. Sometimes a so-called complete set of media isnât available, but could be in the future. Or new image features get added later by the community and implemented into LaunchBox in an updateâŚlike the box spines.
So being able to quickly pick a system and a specific image group would be very useful. Maybe the IMAGE GROUP changes selections depending on the system chosen. I always understood that Carts meant Disc when looking at a CD based system, but it would be more elegant if the selections matched what was available for that system.
IMAGE GROUP (ADVANCED)
Box - Front
Box - Back
Box - 3D
Box - Spine
Arcade - Marquee
Banner
Steam Banner
Cart - Front
Cart - Back <donât really care about the back>
Cart - 3D
Clear Logo
Disc
Screenshot - Game Title
Screenshot - Game Select
Screenshot - Game Over
Screenshot - Gameplay
Screenshot - High Scores
Thereâs even a Box - Full category now. Maybe thatâs for the 3D Model of the box?
And thereâs even more categories than listed above. Maybe allow the user to customize the image group selections per system? I would like that for sure.
Well, I think Iâve said quite a bit. Thank you for taking the time to read all this non-sense. I really do enjoy the work everybody at LaunchBox does for this project. It just keeps getting better and better.
