Discord Rich Presence Integration

📋 Summary

Add support for Discord Rich Presence, allowing LaunchBox to display the currently active game on a user’s Discord status.

🎯 Feature Overview

When a game is launched through LaunchBox or Big Box, Discord would automatically update the user’s status to reflect:

  • The name of the game currently being played

  • The platform (optional: e.g., NES, PC, Arcade)

  • LaunchBox or Big Box branding (optional)

This would be similar to how other platforms (like Steam or RetroArch) integrate with Discord.

🛠 Example Use Case

A user starts Castlevania: Symphony of the Night via LaunchBox.

On Discord, their friends now see:

🎮 Playing: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PlayStation) via LaunchBox

📦 Benefits

  • Share game activity easily with friends

  • Great for social play or streaming coordination

  • Adds polish and modern connectivity to the platform

  • Optional toggle for privacy-conscious users

💡 Notes

Could include options in LaunchBox settings to enable/disable Rich Presence, customize status text, or show/hide platform names. Integration should respect Discord’s API guidelines.

    Could it be possible to add a way to view friends and use features such live streaming to others in the Discord app from the pause menu?

    Would love to see this also allow integration with RetroAchievements’ discord presence, which can give more specific information to Discord (ie where you are in-game, what your character’s level is, what boss you’re fighting, etc) but default to simply displaying the game/platform when RA’s presence info isn’t available.
