Configurable Custom Image Types

šŸ“‹ Summary

Allow users to create their own custom image types, similar to Custom Fields, without requiring support from the LaunchBox Games Database.

ā— Problem

Right now, custom media has to be stored under unrelated built-in image types. For example, bezel or shader screenshots may need to be saved as Steam Screenshot just to keep them separate from scraped screenshots.

šŸ’” Proposal

Let users:

  • Create custom image types with their own names

  • Assign them to an existing image group like Screenshot Images, Background Images, or Box Images

  • Optionally use a dedicated Custom Images group

  • Set view priority for those custom image types in the Options window

Example: Screenshot - Bezel

šŸ“¦ Benefits

  • Keeps custom media separate from scraped media

  • Reduces awkward workarounds

  • Gives users more flexibility in organizing personal collections

šŸ’” Notes

This should be optional, local only, and not tied to the LaunchBox database.

    Configurable Custom Image Types

Similar to the existing Custom Fields in Launchbox, I would like to be able to configure custom image types (not linked to the LB Database).

My personal use case for this: I like to save screenshots of my games using bezels & shaders, but I don’t want to lump those in with the existing Screenshot - Title, Screenshot - Gameplay, etc.

My current workaround: I save my bezel screenshots under a storefront screenshot such as ā€œSteam Screenshotā€ so it’s separate from the scraped screenshots, and I can prioritize in the Options window as needed. A little clunky, but a functional enough solution for me so far.

Ideally, however, it would be nice to be able to save these images under a custom image type that I can name myself to something like ā€œScreenshot - Bezelā€ and save under the ā€œScreenshot Imagesā€ category (or alternatively a ā€œCustom Imagesā€ category), so that I can keep them separate from my scraped images. I’d also like to be able to set the view priority for the custom image type like in the Options window, if possible.

Other potential use cases: saving images of modded games, other image types not in the database like concept art, character clipart, other device images, other screenshot types like cutscenes, logo screens, tutorial screens, etc.

If configurable, I think a custom image type would add a new layer of (optional) customization to media management in Launchbox, so that we’re not totally confined to the official image types in the Launchbox program and database.
