Managing Storefront Games in LaunchBox

LaunchBox has long been the go-to frontend for retro gaming, but it's also become a powerhouse for modern game libraries. With support for multiple storefronts like Steam, GOG, Epic Games, Amazon, EA, Ubisoft, and Xbox, LaunchBox makes it easy to bring your entire collection—past and present—into one unified experience.

🧠 Overview

Since LaunchBox 13.7, users can import and manage modern storefront games via the Storefront Manager. Whether you're starting fresh or upgrading, this guide will walk you through importing, managing, and organizing your storefront-based games.

🔄 Auto-Import: Let LaunchBox Do the Work

  • New Installations: Auto-import of storefront games is enabled by default.

  • Upgraded Installations: Go to Tools > Manage > Storefronts to manually enable it.

LaunchBox supports:

  • Steam

  • GOG

  • Epic Games

  • Amazon

  • Ubisoft

  • EA

  • Xbox/Microsoft Store

Only installed games are imported by default—full library imports require logging in.

With the Enable Automatic Imports On Startup option turned on, LaunchBox will search for games you have yet to import during startup and import them into your LaunchBox library.

🔐 Logging Into Storefronts

Each storefront has its own login method and requirements:

Amazon Games

  • Enter your Amazon credentials to log in.

EA Games

  • Requires login before imports.

  • Supports login via Google, Apple, Xbox, and more.

Epic Games

  • Login supported via email, Facebook, Xbox, etc.

GOG

Steam

Ubisoft Connect

Xbox/Microsoft Store

  • Use your Microsoft credentials.

  • If you already logged in through another storefront, click “Login” to authorize.

📦 Manually Scanning for Storefront Games

To scan for additional games after logging in:

  • Go to Tools > Scan for Storefront Games.

Example: After logging into EA, use this tool to bring in missing titles like Apex Legends or Madden 25.

🏷️ Organizing Games with Badges

LaunchBox supports badges to visually mark storefronts, install status, and achievements:

  • Go to Badges > Storefronts to enable storefront badges.

  • Enable “Installed,” “Not Installed,” and “Achievements” under Game Attributes.

Badges may look different depending on whether you changed your Badge pack.

📁 Creating Smart Playlists (optional)

Easily organize your library by storefront with auto-populate playlists:

  1. Filter by a storefront using the filter button (e.g. Storefront > Amazon).

  2. Click the Filter Button again, and choose Save Filter to a New Playlist.

  3. Name your playlist (e.g. "Amazon Games").

  4. Under Auto-populate, confirm the rules are correct.

  5. Assign it to a parent platform like “Windows”.

Repeat the steps for any storefront you wish.

🔄 Importing Entire Libraries

Want to bring in all your games, not just the installed ones?

  1. Go to Tools > Manage > Storefronts.

  2. Under a storefront like Steam, change “Installed Games” to “All Games (Requires Login)”.

  3. Click Tools > Scan for Storefront Games again.

LaunchBox will import the rest and update your playlists automatically.

♻️ Re-Importing Deleted / Blacklisted Storefront Games

When you delete a storefront game from LaunchBox (e.g., from Steam or Epic), it’s automatically blacklisted to prevent it from being re-added during future imports.

This blacklist is saved in your LaunchBox\Data\ImportBlacklist.xml file and contains links like:

<String>https://store.steampowered.com/app/XXXX</String>

How to Re-Import a Blacklisted Game

You have two options:

  • Use the Import Wizard:

Go to Tools > Import > [Storefront], run the wizard, and select the game again. LaunchBox will re-import it—even if it was blacklisted. This can be done if you only want to re-import a specific game.

  • Manually Remove from the Blacklist:

Open ImportBlacklist.xml in a text editor and delete the entry for the game you want to restore. This should be done if you leverage auto-ROM imports, as this process will now correctly pick up the previously deleted games.

Either approach will allow you to recover accidentally deleted games and get them back into your library.

🧰 Game Management: Install & Delete with Ease

LaunchBox doesn’t just organize your games—it helps you manage them too. With built-in support for launching, installing, and even deleting games, your library stays tidy and under your control.

🔵 Installing Games

If a game hasn’t been installed yet, the Game Details pane will show a blue "Install" button instead of the usual green "Play" button. Clicking this kicks off the installation process, which varies depending on the storefront:

  • Steam – Prompts you to choose an installation path through the Steam client.

  • Epic Games Store – Prompts you to select an installation location through the Epic Games Store client..

  • GOG – Opens GOG Galaxy client and Installs silently in the background.

  • Amazon Games – Opens Amazon Games client and asks you for an install path.

  • Ubisoft Connect – Opens the Ubisoft Connect app and requests an installation location.

  • Xbox / Microsoft Store – Opens the game’s Microsoft Store page where you can download the game.

LaunchBox will handle the rest behind the scenes, smoothly transitioning your game from “not installed” to “ready to play.”

⚙️ Managing Installed Games

Once a game is installed, a new gear icon (Manage Installations) appears in the Game Details pane.

Click this gear to:

  • Delete the game from your hard drive

Depending on the storefront, deleting may trigger additional steps or confirmations in the storefront client.

This functionality helps you easily free up space and keep only what you want installed—without digging through individual storefronts.

💡 Bonus Tip: Instant Auto Import

Installed a new game? Just exit and reopen LaunchBox and it’ll auto-import any new installed titles (as long as auto-import is enabled).
